Meet the innovative new technology in AODD Pumps, the Pro-Flo Shift air intake system. Air Diaphragm Pumps are popular across a variety of industries because they are reliable, gentle, durable, and can handle viscous products and solids. What is the downside? They use a lot of air, AODD pumps run on compressed air and air compressors can bring up the electrical bills quickly. To solve this problem Wilden has introduced the Pro-Flo Shift, their new air-intake design. The Pro-Flo SHIFT reduces air consumption by up to 60% without noticeably effecting flow rate. The traditional AODDs air intake results in an overflow of air, the Pro-Flo SHIFT has a similar pressure trace but without the overflow, resulting in improved efficiency with negligible flow loss.
How traditional air intake works
In a traditional diaphragm, air enters the diaphragm; once the product has fully exited, air continues to enter the diaphragm without further product transfer. This results in overfilling of the air chambers. This extra air costs money, but does not contribute to any future product transfer.
How does the Pro-Flo Shift Work?
The Pro-Flo Shift tapers the air flow, at the beginning of the stroke it has full power and it is slowly reduced by the end of the stroke to prevent overfilling. Wilden designed the Pro-Flo Shift to be as streamlined as possible, only adding 3 new components. The Pro-Flo shift has two air intake ports and an air control spool. Each air chamber has a dedicated inlet air port, allowing it be stoppered to prevent overfill. The air control spool is unbalanced and slightly longer than the pilot spool. When he pump switches sides the piston comes over and makes contact with air control spool first, pushing it in front of the air inlet port of the filled air chamber blocking it off. The air control spool comes over slowly, meaning that the air is slowly restricted from entering the chamber. Once the shift Is completed the other air intake is fully open and air enters the other air chamber.
Benefits of The Pro-Flo Shift
The Pro-Flo SHIFT technology saves air, energy, and money. The Pro-Flo Shift saves air on every single stroke. It was built to solve the overfilling problem as simply as possible, keeping the pump easy to maintenance. The closed exhaust air valve spool improves performance at slow speeds and the larger muffler reduces the effects of freezing on performance. Pro-Flo Shift pumps are more efficient, can be run slower, are simple to maintain, and upholds the reliability that Wilden is known for.
